Danny Tries: Pro Active Balance (Part 2)

Danny!

A few days into Danny’s ongoing 30-day trial of Pro Active Balance supplement, I had a few questions. The most obvious was, what is this stuff supposed to do, anyway?

Being the intrepid journalist that I am, I spoke with Chad Fogarty, business manager at Heartland Pet Care. It turns out that HPC’s parent company makes artificial sweetener, which explains why the supplement comes in those little packets. The company was already adding the probiotics to the sweetener, so it was easy to make the probiotics they were using available for dogs and horses, too.

What difference would it make to dogs, though? There haven’t been any quantified studies on companion animals yet, Fogarty said, but he told me we could expect the following:

  • Firming of stool
  • Relief of hot spots and excessive itching
  • Neutralization of upset stomach, vomiting, diarrhea

If a dog doesn’t have any of these problems, then there won’t be much of a noticeable change at all, but the “good” bacteria introduced by Pro Active Balance will still help with digestion, according to Fogarty. (The prebiotic in the packet with the probiotics, by the way, is dextrose.)

He mentioned that show dogs who get nervous or anxious with travel have been helped by Pro Active Balance, and he suspected that it would help Danny’s occasional acid indigestion.

I’ll be on the lookout for any and all of the above. Danny doesn’t have hot spots, but he does itch a lot in the winter. The final report will be in the beginning of January. Tune in!
